Georgetown defeated Lowell Catholic in the Division 3 North quarterfinals thanks to an outstanding effort from freshman midfielder Ryan Browner. Browner delivered a pair of goals and an assist as he was one of four players to find the net. Jim Savelyev and Bryant Yavorski each had a goal and an assist. Goalie Evan Weagle finished with seven saves to keep Lowell Catholic off the board.

"We're playing well right now and every game is obviously a must-win situation, so we're looking forward to playing St. Mary's (tomorrow, 5 p.m., at Cawley Stadium in Lowell)," said coach Ron Comeau.

Valiant effort can't save Knights

Despite putting up a tremendous effort in the Division 2 North quarterfinals, the North Andover girls soccer team fell 2-1 to Wakefield on a last minute goal.

Wakefield got on the board first with a goal in the opening half, but DeeDee Fagan scored the equalizer with less than 10 minutes to play in the game. Jackie Sullivan and Katie Moroney assisted on the play. However, with less than a minute to go, Wakefield pulled ahead for good, sending the Scarlet Knights to their second-straight quarterfinals loss.

"Wakefield is a very good team. They're coming out of a strong league, so they're battle-hardened," said coach Bud McCarthy. "We would have liked to have stuck around a bit longer."

For the second straight year, Andover was eliminated from postseason play in the Division 1 North quarterfinals. The Warriors fell to Framingham, 4-0. Goaltender Satin Zarkar put forth a solid effort with nine saves, but the Framingham attack was just too powerful.

"We knew going in it was going to be a tough matchup. They're a great team and should go far," coach Meghan Matson said. "Overall, it was a good season. We had a lot of ups and downs in regards to our record, but we were happy to be in the tournament and to do so well this year."

Newburyport beat North Reading 2-0 in the Division 3 North quarterfinals. The Hornets finish the season 12-6-2. Jenn Shields made eight saves for the Hornets.

Bedford slipped by Georgetown 1-0 in the Division 3 North quarterfinals. The Royals finish the season 11-7-2.
